Were you just ask to speak at your sister's wedding?
Did your boss just send you to the Ozarks to rouse the troops with a moving, motivational harangue?
Are you frequently required to speak extemporaneously, but find yourself sweating and sleepless the night before, wondering exactly what to say in order to fill that 10 minute slot?
Stop worrying! I'm here to help!
As your speechwriter and wordsmith of the hour, I want to give you an easy to digest rundown on exactly how this process works. That way, you know what you are buying, and who from.
Writing a speech involves several steps. The writer need to first define a broad framework of points or messages that will ultimately be conveyed. Then, the writer does his or her own research on the topic to flesh out this framework with anecdotes and examples. He will also consider the audience for the speech, which can range from a town-hall meeting of community leaders to an international leaders' forum. Then the writer blends the points, themes, positions, and messages with his or her own research to create an "informative, original and authentic speech" for the one presenting.
The writer then presents a draft version of the speech to the presenter and makes notes on any revisions or changes that are requested. If the writer is familiar with the topic and the positions and style of the presenter, only small changes may be needed. In other cases, the presenter may feel that the speech does not have the right tone or flow, and the entire speech may have to be re-drafted.Either way, the presenter's satisfaction with the final product is paramount.
Wasn't that easy? I bet your breathing slowed down just reading it!
